Blood is an identifying marker in Velarune. Pureblooded vampires that have lived here for centuries can attest. When a child is conceived, there is a link between the child and the parent that cannot be separated. If the heir is in the direct proximity of their parents, they can compel the child’s obedience without consent. The offspring of the parents' scent will combine to create a new family signature.
MATE BONDS
Romantic pairings in Velarune are often done on the pretense of chosen love. These bonds are real and can alter one's life in ways that could have consequences. Being a chosen bond can feel secondary when there could be someone fated out there. Most simply choose the bond that is closest within reach. The offspring of these parents' scent will combine to create a new family signature.
SIRED KIN
Every Elguto in Velarune has an original sire. These sire bonds are considered to be reckless when blood can run pure. Some may say that they can be deeper than actual family bonds. The one that is sired will be under the will of the one creating them. They'd be able to compel the other into servitude. The sire takes on the scent of the creator, masking their scent with their own.
VELSERA BONDS
This romantic pairing is considered to be touched by the Gods. It is believed everyone has a Velsera, but not everyone finds who they are, or they're simply not in Velarune, or maybe not even born yet. But when these souls collide, as they did when they were created, it is a bond that is unmatched. When the bond is fully consummated and witnessed before the Gods their scent will intertwine and disperse between them, truly one. Unbroken.
